WENDELA E. JONES was born in Sweden around 1873. Her family came to America in 1879. She married Thomas Jones around 1891. The Jones family lived 403 South 5th Street at the time of the 1920 census. 1930 found them living in Woodlynne, but they moved back to Camden soon after, to 426 Carteret Street, where she was living in 1934. Mrs. Jones was a charter member of the women's Moose organization in Camden, the Women's Chapter of Mooseheart Legion No. 385. She was an officer in that organization, and chaired at different times many of its committees. Wendela Jones had been elected to lead the Mooseheart Legion's Mothers Day Parade on May 13, 1934. The parade originated at the Moose Lodge at 8th & Market Streets. While leading the parade, she suffered a heart attack at Carman. Taken in a taxicab to her home at 426 Carteret Street, she died fifteen minutes after her reaching home. Wendela Jones was survived by her husband, son Harry, and daughter Mrs. Marion Allen. |
