WALTER
H. SIMPSON was born in New Jersey around 1879. In 1920 he was living at
915 South 8th Street. At that point in time he was in the retail grocery
business, owning his own store. He had become involved in politics, and
was President of the 7th Ward Republican Club from 1906 til 1913, when
he was elected freeholder from Camden's 7th Ward. He remained in that
post until 1920, when he resigned to become transportation supervisor
for the City of Camden.
Walter
Simpson married late in life,
at the age of 42, and with wife Elsie had three daughters by 1930,
Christina, Eleanora, and Wilhelmina. At the time of the 1930 census, he
owned a home at 767 Walnut Street, Walter Simpson was in the retail
hardware business. By 1947 this building had become the offices of the
Carter & Holland Real Estate Agency.
