Di Mona Sr.


JOSEPH J. DiMONA was born October 18, 1901 in NJ. He established his furniture store in 1919. By 1930 he owned a store at  937-939 South 4th Street in Camden. The DiMona family lived above the store. In 1935 he also had a second store at 701 Haddon Avenue in Collingswood NJ. The Di Mona store was till on South 4th Street as late as January 1938. By 1943 the DiMona store was located at 921 Broadway, where the H. Pinsky & Co. store was previously located. At this location, Joseph DiMona Sr. achieved his greatest success. He purchased the home at 919 Broadway from the Cooper family upon the death of Dr. David Cooper to expanded the store in the late 1940s. Known simply as DiMona's, the store was a fixture on Broadway into the 1960s. He was elected President of the Greater Camden Merchants Association in July of 1950.

Joseph DiMona had moved to 153 Hopkins Avenue in Haddonfield by the late 1940s. He later lived in Haddon Heights NJ. Joseph DiMona passed away in November of 1986. His son Joseph DiMona Jr., won wide acclaim as an writer of novels, non-fiction, and screenplays.
