Cason


WILLIAM ROBERT CASON was born on July 8, 1877 in New Jersey to Charles and Elizabeth Cason. He married Adaline H. Wells on March 13, 1897.

The 1900 Census shows William R. Cason, wife Addie and son Howard living at 619 Henry Street. he was working as a packer at a wholesale drug firm. He remained at this job into the spring of 1910. Sadly, Addie Cason passed away from diptheria on June 29, 1903 and was buried at Colestown Cemetery in Delaware Township (present-day Cherry Hill) New Jersey.

The 1906 Camden City Directory and 1910 Census both show William R. Cason working  living at 526 Mickle Street along with his son, his parents, brother Charles W. Cason Jr. and his wife Jessie.g William R. Cason was appointed to the Camden Fire Department. On July 1, 1910. By 1912 the Casons had by that time moved to 518 Mickle Street. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1915.
 

By September of 1918 William R. Cason had remarried. He was living with his wife Margaret, stepdaughter Gladys Allen, and in-laws Joseph and Mary Renard at 442 Stevens Street. This arrangement was still in place in January of 1920. The 1924 City Directory shows him residing at 437 Stevens Street. The 1927 City Directory shows him living at 519 Benson Street. He had by that time been promoted to Captain. He retired on February 29, 1928.

William R. Cason is not listed in the 1929 City Directory. He had retired from the Camden Fire Department with the rank of Captain during the late 1920s. When the Census was taken in April of 1930s, William R. Cason was a widower by this time. He was living with his sister and brother-in-law Rose and Louis Renard in Gloucester City, New Jersey. By 1931 he had move to 316 Audubon Avenue in Audubon, New Jersey.

William R. Cason was last a resident of Audubon, New Jersey. He passed away on July 13, 1940 and was buried by his wife at Colestown Cemetery. He was survived by his son, Howard Courtney Cason.
