Matthew-Purnell Group to Seat New Officers New officers of the ladies auxiliary of the Corporal Matthews-Purnell Post 518, VFW, will be installed at the post home, 2712 Hayes Avenue, Thursday night. Post 518 Auxiliary Planning for Fair Mrs. Victoria Nicktern presided at the weekly meeting of the ladies auxiliary of Corporal MathewsPurnell Post 518 VFW. Louis Silverman and Chester Knaub spoke about post activities at the forthcoming South Jersey State Fair. Mrs. Margaret Worrell was appointed chairman of the auxiliary committee for fair activities. Mrs. Nicktern and Mrs. Esther Rowand are committee members. A donation will be made by the group to the Blind Artist fund. Members of the auxiliary attended the Salvation Army band concert and also services at the Bethany Baptist church, an annual pre-Memorial Day custom with the group. |

Delegates Named to State Council at Newark Mrs. Carrie Bean and Mrs. Theresa Mungioli, of the Ladies Auxiliary, Corporal Mathews-Purnell Post 518, were designated at a recent auxiliary meeting to attend a session of the State Council on Sunday at the Military park hotel, Newark. Mrs. Bean is chairman of the state budget committee, and Mrs. Mungioli is chairman of the state finance committee. Both women are past department presidents. Mrs. Victoria Nicktern, president of the local auxiliary presided at the session which named Mrs. Bean and Mrs. Mungioli as representatives to the Newark meeting. The auxiliary conducted a cake sale Friday to raise funds for its organization's activities. The names of two young people who were among eight receiving awards at Veterans Memorial
Junior High school graduation, exercises for outstanding work during the term, and had not been
reported previously have been announced as Joan Wark and John Parks. |

Group Plans Sale Of Buddy Poppies All Next Week Ladies of the VFW auxiliary will sell poppies all next week to aid disabled veterans and the maintenance of the VFW national home at Eaton Rapids, Mich., for orphans and widows of deceased and totally disabled veterans. A motion was made to donate funds to the Salvation Army at a meeting of the Corporal Mathews-Purnell Ladies Auxiliary 518, VFW. Mrs. Victoria Nicktern, president of the auxiliary, presided at the affair. The auxiliary also voted to sponsor a booth at the South Jersey State Fair. On Sunday the post and auxiliary attended memorial services at Bethany Baptist Church. |

VFW Convention Opens Wednesday At Asbury Park Asbury Park, June 25.-The 1951 encampment of the VFW Department of New Jersey and its auxiliary will begin here at 9 a. m. Wednesday. The sessions will open at 9 a. m. with registration, followed by a ladies auxiliary department council meeting. Slated for the same day are a joint opening session and annual memorial services and a VFW Department Council of Administration meeting at the Monterey hotel. Registration will continue Thursday, followed by business sessions and an encampment dinner and a department auxiliary presidents' dinner. On Friday there will be business sessions followed by a cootie session, election of officers and a cootie torchlight parade. Auxiliary district presidents will hold a breakfast Saturday, followed by other business sessions, a pageant of bugles and drums and a military ball at the Monterey hotel. Corporal Mathews-Purnell Post 518, of Camden, has engaged a suite of rooms at the Monterey, and Camden Post 980 will have a suite of rooms in the Kingsley Arms hotel. |

COMMITTEES were named at the last meeting of Corporal Mathews-Purnell Post 518, VFW, to plan for the thirtieth anniversary of the founding of the post and its auxiliary. The event will be observed with a dinner all the night of October 27 in the parish hall of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Twenty-eighth street and River avenue. Irving L. Stiefel, commander, has named as members of the anniversary committee Orris Smith, Alvah S. Ward, Paul H. Fredericks, John Morgandale, Albert Morgandale, Burrough Messick, Stephen Walters, Chester Knaub Sr., Louis Silverman, William Mountney, Albert Cornog and Michael Mungioli. Silverman and Messick are in charge of tickets.
