NESBERT Y. SLOAN was born in New Jersey in May of 1855. He was the son of Solomon and Camilla Sloan. Solomon Sloan brought his family to New Jersey from Pennsylvania in the early 1850s.

When the census was taken in 1880 Nesbert Sloan was living at 807 Broadway and working as a painter. Also at home were older brothers William Y. and Charley F. Sloan, and younger sister Mary Sloan. Nesbit Y. SLoan was then working as a painter.

Nesbert Y. Sloan was appointed to the Camden Fire Department in on March 27, 1882 as a driver. He served for two years, but was not reappointed in 1884.

Nesbert Y. Sloan continued working as a house painter. He married in the 1890s, and his wife Mary bore him a daughter, Mary J. Sloan, in February of 1898. When the Census was taken in June of 1900 the Sloans were living at 1678 Broadway. They appear to have moved to Ocean View in Sussex County, Delaware by 1909, and were still there when the Census was taken in 1910. He does not appear in the 1920 Census.
