WAR MEMORIAL

Honoring Those Who Served In World War I, World War II, Korea, & Vietnam


       Situated on the grounds of the Edwin I. Johnson American Legion Post 370 in Magnolia NJ, this site is located south of the White Horse Pike (US Route 30) at 430 N. Warwick Road. The original World War I monument was expanded after the Korean War, and a separate Vietnam monument was added in 1987.

Listed are the names of local men and women who served in the Armed Forces during the war of the last century. Click on pictures for enhanced views. The six men who gave their lives while serving our nation during World War II are indicated by a star next to their name, while the three men lost in the Vietnam War are the only names listed on that particular monument.

HST Rohna

         Six men from Camden NJ, Frank Ballerino, Michael Carr,  Michael Yachus, Stephen V. Koscianski, Lewis Riondino, and Joseph H. Johnson died together when the troop transport HMTS Rohna was struck by a German guided glider bomb and sank of the coast of North Africa. In addition,  six other Camden County men, Jacob Kessler Jenkins and Carl Johanson of Pennsauken, 19 year-old Harry V. Taylor Jr. of Haddonfield, William McKeon of Blackwood, Merl Reagle of Lindenwold, and Elmer F. Day of Merchantville and  also were lost that day. In total, 1,015 men were lost, but the story was never told to the families or the general public for over 57 years due to wartime censorship.
