PRIVATE ANGELO B. ROMANO, was born in Philadelphia PA on December 6, 1906 to Leonard and Mary Romano. Besides Angelo there were brothers Phillip and Joseph, and sisters Elizabeth and Rose. The Romano family had moved to Camden by 1909, and by 1930 the family had purchased a house at 507 Mt. Vernon Street. His father worked as a stone mason. In his youth, Angelo Romano attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel School where he was an enthusiastic member of the Church choir. By 1930 he was working as a professional musician. Before entering the Armed Services he had organized several bands in Philadelphia. It is worthy to mention here that he arranged all of the music played by the bands. Private Romano was the author of several original pieces of music which unfortunately have never been published. Shortly after joining the Army he was shipped overseas. Angelo Romano was inducted into the Army in March of 1944. After eight months in the U.S. Army, he was killed at Metz, Germany, on November 16th, 1944, at the age of 37.
