Fire Department |
This page and the other pages in this series are the successors to the series of web-page about the Camden Fire Department that began with the page Camden Fire Department: The Fires of the Summer of 2011. On this and other pages in the series you will find pictures and information regarding different events and aspects of the fire service in Camden, New Jersey. Having received an invitation for a Sunday dinner at Liberty Station, with meatballs, sausage and gravy cooked by Engine 10's incomparable master chef, Joey DiPaolo, I was on hand and in good company in Camden when at about 7:40 a call came for a gas leak in a vacant unit at the Clement T. Branch Village public housing project on North 9th Street between Van Hook Street and Central Avenue. Riding in the back of the old Rescue truck was an experience.... haven't been shaken that much since my last trip to an amusement park.... still managed to get a couple of shots out the back, coming and going. After access was gained to the vacant apartment and the situation handled, we returned to Liberty Station for a bit more food and a lot more fellowship! On hand were Engine 10, Squad 7, Rescue 1, and Battalion Chief Frank Saia, who was on duty. Also in attendance was Squad 51 from the Gloucester City Fire Department and GCFD's Battalion Chief Charles Sanderson, a very good sign being that the two departments are working together more closely now than in past times. Other attendees included former Chief of Department Joe Marini, Fire Dispatcher Matthew DeGailler, photographer Dom Patricelli, and off-duty Deputy Chief Ed Glassman. A very good time was had by all. A few minutes after 9:00 PM another call concerning a gas leak was received, and the Camden companies were dispatched to 1206 Louis Street to investigate. This was handed and units returned to quarters. Besides the photos I took, there are 38 photos courtesy of Dom Patricelli on this page. On the way home I was driving down Haddon Avenue when word came of a car accident on Mickle Boulevard at Haddon Avenue. At 9:52 PM I got a picture of the ambulance as seen from my car window as I was stopped at the light. As with the web page covering other Camden Fire Department events, if you can identify anyone that I've missed, please e-mail me. (I'm terrible at at names and faces). Phil
