Joseph F. Murawski

PRIVATE JOSEPH F. MURAWSKI was born April 13, 1914 in New Jersey. He was the second of at least eight children born to Frank and Cecelia Murawski. The family lived at 907 Sycamore Street at the time of the 1920 Census. At the time of the 1930 Census, the Murawski family lived at 1210 Chestnut Street, a block in Camden where many Polish immigrants had made there home. His father was then working as a laborer in one of Camden's many shipyards.  As a youth, he attended the Lincoln School, and was particularly fond of hunting and fishing. The next door neighbors at 1212 Chestnut Street were the Wojtkowiak family. Uncle Casimir Wojtkowiak worked later worked as an investigator with the Camden County Prosecutors Office, while son John became a highly decorated fighter pilot after shortening his name to John White. 

According to a pamphlet published by the St. Joseph Church of South 10th and Mechanic Streets in Camden, Joseph Murawski later lived at 1212 Louis Street. He was inducted into the Army, his call to service coming shortly after the death of his mother, Cecelia Murawski,  on October 20, 1943. He received training on tanks at Fort Knox KY, where he as rated "expert" in the use of machine guns.

Private Murawski was killed in action on December 19, 1944. He was survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and a daughter, Cecelia. is sister Elixabeth was married to Camden firefighter Edward G. Glaze, who died while fighting a fire in 1958 as a member of Engine Company 7.

Age 87, (nee Glaze), of Mt. Ephraim, NJ. Died Thursday, September 29, 2005, in Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, Camden, NJ. Born in Camden, Mrs. Murawski was a homemaker and an avid Phillies and Eagles fan.
She was the wife of the late Joseph, and is survived by her beloved daughter, Cecelia and her husband Michael Powell of Mt. Ephraim, and several nieces and nephews. She was is predeceased by her sister, Mildred Verzilli and her brother, Edward G. Glaze.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass Tuesday morning 10:30 AM in St. Francis DeSales Church, W. Gloucester Pike, Barrington, NJ. Viewing 9:30 to 11:30 AM in church. Interment private (ALLOWAY FUNERAL HOME, Merchantville, NJ).
