John J. Gorman

CORPORAL JOHN J. GORMAN was the son of John A. and Mary Gorman, of 1040 North 19th Street, in the Cramer Hill section of Camden NJ. He had attended Camden High School, and worked at the Penn-Jersey Shipyard prior to being inducted into the United States Army in March of 1943. He trained at Fort Meade MD and Fort Bragg NC prior to being sent overseas in July of 1944. He joined the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division as a replacement.

Corporal Gorman was killed in action during the siege of Aachen, Germany on October 12, 1944, at the age of 22. His death was reported in the October 28, 1944 edition of the Camden Courier-Post. A Mass was said for him at St. Joseph Catholic Church, on Westfield Avenue in Camden NJ on October 31, 1944.

John Gorman was brought home aboard the USAT Joseph V. Connolly, arriving October 27, 1947. He was buried at New St. Mary's Cemetery in Bellmawr NJ in November of that year, where he now rests next to his parents and brother Paul Gorman.
