SERGEANT JESSE FOWLER had come to live at 913 Cedar Street in Camden NJ sometime after 1930. He attended Camden County Vocational School in Pennsauken NJ. By the 1940s he was living at 211 Landis Avenue in Oaklyn NJ. Jesse Fowler enlisted in the United States Army. He qualified for flight duty, and trained as a gunner and flight engineer. He graduated gunnery school at Harlingen TX, was promoted to sergeant, and won his wings, in September of 1943. He received further training at Wendover Field UT, and was home for a brief furlough in late January, 1944, after which he returned to Wendover Field. He had posted a letter home only two days before when the bomber he was flying in was shot down over France on October 5, 1944, at the age of 21. He was survived by his aunt, Mrs. Albert Laurie of Camden NJ. His death was reported in the October 28, 1944 edition of the Camden Courier-Post. |
