EDWARD ANTHONY HOWELL was born in Pennsylvania May 2, 1916, one of eight children born to John J. and Mary Ella Stapleton Howell, the others being Robert, Donald, James, Mary Ellen, Lillian, John J. Jr., and Charles Franklin. His early years were spent at New Philadelphia PA, in Schuylkill County, where his father owned a grocery store. The family resided there in January 1920, at 61 Water Street.
The family moved to New jersey in the 1920s. John J. Howell died in 1928 of gall bladder cancer. Mary Ella Howell and her family were living at 330 York Street in North Camden. Edward Howell Enlisted in the United States Navy prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941, and served in the Pacific during the war. He had recently re-enlisted when he met his end, on August 18, 1946.
Edward Anthony Howell was killed in an automobile accident in Philadelphia. He was survived by his mother, who was still a resident of 330 York Street, Camden NJ and siblings. The Howell family remained at the York Street address into the 1960s.
