PRIVATE MARTIN DiCARLANTONIO, of 2800 Congress Road, in the Fairview-Yorkship Square neighborhood of Camden NJ, was killed in action on February 20, 1944 while serving in Italy. 

Born in 1923, Martin DiCarlantonio was the son of Carlo and Anna Natale DiCarlantonio. In 1930, the family lived at 423 Winslow Street, in Camden's 8th Ward. His father had come to America from Italy in 1913, and was a crane operator for one of the railroad lines that serviced Camden. He had attended the John W. Mickle School at South 6th and Van Hook Streets and Camden County Vocational and Technical School in Pennsauken NJ, and worked for the New York Shipbuilding Company prior to entering the Army in April of 1943. He was sent to Italy in September, 1943. 

Survived by his parents and siblings, his younger brothers Carlo Jr. and Anthony were both in the Navy at the time of his death. The 1930 census lists his older sister Lucille, and an older brother, Andrew, as well.

2 AT MICKLE SCHOOL WIN LEGION MEDALS

Mary Begich and Raymond Kline, members of the 8A graduating class at Mickle School, Sixth and Van Hook Streets, were honored as recipients of American Legion Award medals at graduation exercises.

The exercises were conducted by Mark G. Messinger, principal of the school. Commander John Henderson, of the Post Office American Legion Post, presented the awards. Mary Begich had the additional honor of possessing a perfect report for the past school term.
