SERGEANT MALCOLM WHITMAN GILL
was born in 1909 in Pennsylvania to Arthur
Benjamin Gill and his wife Margaret. His father was a prominent local
architect, who moved both his business and his family to Camden NJ,
first to 217 Pearl
Street, then purchasing a house at 310 State Street in North Camden around
1924,
having had an office at 519 Market Street for several years already.
Malcolm Gill, known to friends as "Mac", graduated from Camden
High School in 1926 where he was active in after school activities. He
was well known as a typewriter repairman in high school.
After graduating high school, Malcolm Gill worked as a draftsman in his father's business in Camden. He married Mae Edginton, and the couple lived at 210 State Street, Camden NJ. He was inducted into the Army in July of 1943, and served in a medical detachment in Atlantic City NJ. Malcolm Gill died June 13, 1944 of complications from a kidney operation he had under went three weeks previously. A blood transfusion had been attempted on the 12th, but he failed to rally. He was survived by his parents, brother Robert, and his wife, Mrs. Mae Edginton Gill. |
