PRIVATE FIRST CLASS LOUIS HOWELL was born on August 15, 1917 to Mr. and Mrs. Elias Howell. As a boy he had lived in Barrington NJ. The family later moved to 1144 Louis Street, in Camden NJ. Drafted into the Army in 1942, he had gone overseas in January of 1944. He saw considerable action at the Anzio beachhead in Italy, and was killed in action during the attack out of Anzio, north of Rome, Italy on May 27, 1944. Louis Howell was brought home after the war, and he was buried at Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly NJ on July 28, 1948. Besides his parents, he was survived by a sister, Rae Howell, and three brothers, William E., Kenneth, and Raymond Howell, all of whom served in the armed forces. |
