PRIVATE FIRST CLASS HERMAN F. KERK, 29, of 815 Lois Avenue, in the Cramer Hill section of Camden NJ, was killed in action on January 13, 1945 while serving in France. The oldest of the five Kerk brothers, he was the son of Adolph Kerk Sr., a shipper for a lace mill. He lost his mother in the late 1920s. Adolph Sr. raised the 5 boys at a house he rented at 220 Byron Street, in the Poet's Row section of North Camden. Herman Kerk was inducted into the Army in July of 1942, and had trained at Fort Bragg NC, before going overseas in August of 1943, and served in North Africa, Italy, France. Herman F. Kerk was survived by his brothers, Adolph Jr. and Karl Kerk, of 220 Byron Street, Camden NJ, and William and Albert Kerk, who were serving in the armed forces when he was killed. |
