PRIVATE FIRST CLASS GEORGE J. VILLANO was born in New Jersey in 1920 to Rocco and Carmella "Millie" Villano, one at least six children in the Villano family. He grew up in North Camden, where his family lived, first at 623 North 6th Street, and by April of 1930 at 631 North 8th Street. His mother was an active member of the Church of the Holy Name Parent-Teacher Association (P.T.A.). George J. Villano was drafted and inducted into the United States Army on July 24, 1944 at Camden NJ. Prior to his time in the Army, he had worked as a machinist for RCA in Camden. He lived at 828 Birch Street in North Camden with his wife Kathleen. Private First Class Villano died of wounds received in combat in on February 25, 1945 in Holland. He was survived by his wife, Kathleen Villano; his mother, of 631 North 8th Street Camden NJ; and two brothers, Anthony who was serving in the 8th Air Force, and Gerard who was with the 29th Infantry Division. George J. Villano was 24 at the time of his passing. |
