MACHINIST'S MATE FIRST CLASS FREDERICK BERMEL was born in Maryland in 1897. In 1920 he was serving in the United States Navy as a Fireman Third Class on the USS Murray (DD97),  a WICKES class destroyer, based in Boston MA. At that time he gave his home address as 4727 Locust Street in Baltimore MD. At some point after this time, he married, and made his home in Camden NJ. A member of the United States Naval Reserve, he was killed in action during the landings in North Africa in November of 1942.

Frederick Bermel was survived by his wife, Mary Lou Bermel, of 814 Penn Street, Camden NJ.
