PRIVATE FRANK J. HARTMANN III was born in Camden NJ, and lived in North Camden most of his life, at 740 State Street. His grandfather, Frank J. Hartmann Sr. was in the cigar business for many years in Camden, his father, Frank J. Hartmann Jr., was a former City Commissioner. Frank Hartmann was a 1943 graduate of Camden High School, where he followed the general course of studies. He was working as an apprentice at Magnetic Metals in Camden NJ when drafted in November of 1943. 

Private Frank Hartmann III was killed in action in France on July 18, 1944. Brought home aboard the USAT Eric G. Gibson to New Jersey in January of 1948, he was buried at Beverly National cemetery in Beverly NJ on February 7, 1948.
