STAFF SERGEANT FRANCESCONI
H. EZZI was the son of Alfonso and Nicoletta Ezzi, who had both
emigrated to America from Italy. The eighth of thirteen children, he had
been born in Pennsylvania in 1917. The family moved to Camden NJ around
1926, and in 1930 the Ezzi family was renting a home at 338 Chestnut
Street. Alphonse Ezzi was working as construction laborer, and the grown
children had found work in Camden's many factories, daughters Mary and
Julia working for Campbell Soup and RCA-Victor, sons William and Albert
for a cork company. The other children were Albert, Pauline, Anna,
James, Arthur, Adaline, Louise, Monica and Dolores. The Ezzi family later moved
to 248 Pine Street in
Camden NJ. By 1940 they had moved to 412 Pine Street.
Frank Ezzi had attended Woodrow Wilson
High School in Camden, and had worked for the Continental Can Company
and Campbell Soup. He had gone into the Army in 1939 and had been
discharged, only to be drafted in April of 1941.
Frank Ezzi went overseas
in December of 1941. He was killed in action at St. Lo, France on July 10, 1944.
He was survived by his wife, the former Anna Vaneria, daughter Frances
Ezzi, 6, his parents, four brothers, and eight sisters. Two of his brothers were serving in the Army,
Corporal James Ezzi, and Corporal Arthur Ezzi. His death was reported in
the August 1944 edition of the Camden Courier-Post. Staff
Sergeant Ezzi was brought home after the war. In April of 1948 he was buried at Calvary
Cemetery in what was them Delaware Township (present day Cherry Hill)
NJ, where he rests next to his parents. |
