PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ELMER J. MEILER was killed in action in Belgium, early in 1945. Born in 1924 to Mr. and Mrs. William Meiler. He was graduate of the Camden County Vocational & Technical School, on Browning Road in Pennsauken NJ. Elmer Meiler lived with his family at 1311 Thurman Street in Camden NJ.

Elmer Meiler was inducted into the United States Army on May 5, 1943. He went overseas with the 69th Infantry Division, and volunteered for airborne duty once in England. Private Meiler was transferred to the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division.

Elmer Meiler was killed in action on January 5, 1945 in Belgium. Brought home in December of 1947, he was buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Camden NJ on December 11, 1945,

Elmer Meiler was survived by his father, three brothers, George, William Jr., and Robert, and a sister, Eleanor Meiler. His brothers George William Jr. also saw service in the Army during the war.
