STAFF SERGEANT SOLOMON A. KANTOR was the son of Samuel Fred Kantor and his wife, the former Anna Lewis. The Kantor's lived at 1214 Empire Avenue in the Parkside section of Camden NJ. Samuel Kantor had moved his family to Empire Avenue prior to his registering for the draft in September of 1918. He was then the owner of a movie theater business. A member of the 1943 graduating class of Camden High School, he worked in the produce section of the A&P Supermarket on Atlantic Avenue before being inducted into the United States Army. Camden High School classmate Joseph Cooper remembered his in April of 2003: "....he taught me the ropes in the produce section of the A&P, and, I later heard that he was killed in crossing into Germany by receiving a direct hit from from a German "88." I do remember him as a tall, thin, hard worker, who was great to work with." Inducted into the United States Army, Solomon Kantor was assigned to the 378th Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division. He was wounded in action, and had returned to his unit when killed. His body was not recovered, and the Army declared him dead in January of 1946. Solomon Kantor was survived by his parents, who remained in Camden form many years. |

PARENTS GIVE PARTY IN DAUGHTER'S HONOR Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Kantor, 1214 Empire avenue, entertained at a buffet supper and card party in honor of their daughter, Miriam, who was graduated from Camden High School last week. Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Lewis and Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Rovner, Philadelphia; Frances Baron, Cleveland, and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rovner, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Stern, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Friedenberg, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Handle, Rabbi and Mrs. Philip L. Lipis and Mr. and Mrs. Barney B. Brown, Camden. |
