WELSH STREET up until the 1980s ran south for one block between Pine Street and Division Street, from 522 Pine Street, just west of Broadway. For many years it was best known as being the "back alley" behind the Hurley Store. Welsh Street appears in the 1865 and 1874 Camden City Directories as Shreeve's Alley. By 1876 it had been renamed Welsh Street, and is listed as such in that year's City Directory. There was at least one house on the street in 1865, by 1878 there were two, and the were still there in 1906, according to that year's Sanborn Map. There are no listings after 1915, as the Hurley Store at Broadway and Pine Street expanded. Welsh Street was still there as late as 1980. In the 1990s pretty much most of the the block west of Broadway between Pine and Division Streets was rebuilt and a Head Start center was built.
