ST. JOHN STREET is a very narrow street that runs from Royden Street south to Newton Avenue. It does not show up in the 1850 Camden City Directory, but had already been laid out when the 1863 Directory was issued. From the 180s through at least 1883 what is now St. John Street from Pine Street south to Newton Avenue was known as Reese Street. |

BOY BRUISED BY CAR Leo Gorman, 13, of 1045 Pine Street, was bruised last night when he was struck by an automobile at Haddon Avenue and Pine Street. John Lehman, 27, of 611 St. John Street, driver of the car, said the youth refused to go to a hospital. Lehman said the boy was crossing the intersection and apparently became confused when Lehman sounded his horn. |

Here's a circa 1916 photo taken at what I believe is Saint John St, looking North to Pine. The photo is of my grandfather, Charles P. Barto. The brick house directly behind the carriage would be 556 Pine, the home of his grandparents, John R. and Missouri (Bundick) Wolfe. Jeff

923 St. John Street 1890 William Heineman My great-great-grandfather, William Heineman (bottom left) and some of his companions at an un-named railroad crossing in Camden, circa 1890s. I have two others of him, dated 1894. In one he is doing some caulking on top of a water tower, and the other, some smithy work, presumably at the same water tower construction site. The location is not named and it's been driving me nuts trying to find the location via the buildings visible in the distance. Jeff
