1902 West Jersey Press - December 16, 1868 Philadelphia Inquirer - February 5, 1902 Usually referred to as N.B. Aaronson, Napoleon Aaronson opened a flour and feed store in Camden in the summer of 1860. The 1860 Census shows him in Camden's Middle Ward and Directories show him at 21 North 5th Street from 1863 to 1867. The family consisted of N.B. Aaronson, wife the former Sarah Ann Chew, and children Frederic, John, Sarah and Mary, and one relative of his wife. In
the summer of 1861, with the country engaged in Civil War, N.B. Aaronson and his
son Frederic answered the nations call. When the Fourth New Jersey Volunteer
Infantry Regiment was raised in August, N.B. Aaronson was appointed Captain of
Company F, and Frederic was appointed First Lieutenant. In 1862 he saw action at
the Battle of Gaines Mill, where he apparently was one of the 400 men captured.
He and Captain John Reynolds were exchanged for Confederate officers in August.
Now commanded by Colonel William B. Hatch, from August 26 to September 2 the
Fourth New Jersey was part of General John Pope’s campaign in Northern Virginia,
which culminated on August 30 with the Second Battle of Bull Run, and the
ensuing Union retreat to Centreville. On September 6 General McClellan
began a campaign into Maryland. On September 14 the regiment and its sister
units in the First New Jersey Brigade took part in the N.B. Aaronson died February 1, 1902 from a stroke and was buried at Evergreen Cemetery. |

I am including a picture of a trowel with the Feriozzi name on it and a picture of my kindergarten graduation class from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in 1953. I also saw that my Uncle Miff (Alfred) Arcaini's friend Nino Marcozzi posted a picture from in front of my Arcaini grandparent's house at 329 Beckett. It's heartbreaking to see Camden the way it is today, but I have great memories of Camden the way it was when I was a kid. I remember walking down Broadway with my Dad going to the movies with him and seeing Santa at Hurley's. I also remember the grocery store on the corner of 5th and Spruce, Falconiero's. Fred owned it and Pauli was his son. I remember Pauli's daughter Sandra would come over to our house dig in the dirt with me when we were 3 or 4. Ron

We lived with my grandprents, Ernest Feriozzi who owned and operated Feriozzi Construction Company and my grandmother Maria "Mary" Feriozzi. We all lived at 905 South 5th until my grandfather moved all of us to 521 Spruce in about 1953 which became the base for the construction company. I don't know how long prior to my birth they owned the house on 5th street, but the 1940 census had my grandparents and all of their children living there. The children (my uncles) were Anthony (Tony), Oswaldo(Ozzie), and Guido. My mother was Helen and my aunt was Adriana(Adri). Ron Arcaini |

60-DAY SENTENCE GIVEN IN THEFT OF WATCH Sixty
days in the county jail was the sentence meted out to Wilmer Brown, 52,
of 3002
Thompson Street, when he was charged in police court
yesterday with stealing a watch. Arrested
on complaint of Martin Nelson, 561
Spruce Street,
Brown denied the charges and said he knew nothing of the timepiece.
Nelson testified that he went to a house on Cherry Street
near Sixth with Brown and fell asleep. His watch was taken while he
slept, he said. He admitted he had been drinking. William Pollard, of 751 Cherry Street, said he was in the back yard of the house on Cherry Street when Nelson and Brown appeared. An hour after they entered the place, he said, Brown asked him for a pair of pliers to cut it chain. In sentencing Brown, Police Judge Pancoast said he believed the man wanted the pliers to cut Nelson’s watch chain. |

CHARLES
H. PRICE, G.O.P. LEADER, DIES Charles H. Price, 73, veteran Republican political leader in the Sixth Ward and a former assistant street commissioner, died at his house, 564 Spruce Street, yesterday of heart disease. Mr. Price had been ailing for two years but his condition did not become precarious until last Sunday. He had an attack on that date which weakened him and compelled him to remain indoors. He was lying on the couch in the living-room of the house yesterday when he was taken with another attack, while his sister-in-law, Miss Delia Heron, was seated in the room with him. Miss Heron hurried to summon a physician, but Mr. Price passed away shortly after the attack. He was born in Smyrna, Delaware, coming to Camden when a baby. Mr. Price was employed as an oil cloth maker for years, then, went into politics. When Alfred L. Sayers was street commissioner, Mr. Price became his assistant, remaining in the highway department until pensioned. Mr. Price was a member of the Camden Lodge of Elks and the Sixth Ward Republican Club. Funeral services will be held from 564 Spruce Street at 11 a. m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Arlington cemetery. |

Hi. My name is Ronald Troutman, I am the youngest son of Edward and Elnora Troutman who once resided at 759 Bella Place. I in fact was born at that location. I remember most of the persons listed as former residents. I had five brothers and three sisters. Five members are deceased. Four of the male members were police officers in the City of Camden. Edward, William, John, and myself. My oldest sister still lives in East Camden, my youngest sister lives in West Berlin. My only living brother James lives in Parkside. I recall each night the service man coming around to light the gas light in Bella Place. I should mention that also we moved from Bella Place to 751 Spruce Street That location was the corner entering Bella Place. I went to Kindergarten at Mt. Vernon School but transferred to Liberty School in the first grade in 1946. That year was the first that black children could attend. They were the good old days. I will close by saying that it is nice to be able to go on the internet and find so much information about the City and its residents former and current. Ron

1956-1961 The entire 900 block of Spruce Street is gone to facilitate I-676 but this is me at my house back in 1958. The 900 block was great. We also had a garage owned by George Barnes next to the railroad where we played stick ball, red rover, hide and seek, red light green light, and other games. My dad put in the picture window. During summer nights we watched TV on the porch and chatted with neighbors. Loved it! John Ways |
