Pulaski
Street

PULASKI STREET is named for American Revolutionary Was hero Casimir Pulaski. Born in Poland in 1745, Pulaski was a Polish nobleman, soldier and military commander who has been called with his Hungarian friend Michael Kovats de Fabriczy "the fathers of the American cavalry". Pulaski has been remembered as a hero who fought for independence and freedom both in Poland and in the United States. Numerous places and events are named in his honor, and he is commemorated by many works of art. Pulaski is one of only eight people to be awarded honorary United States citizenship. He was mortally wounded during the battle to liberate Savannah, Georgia from the British in October of 1779.

Pulaski Street runs south from opposite 1141 Sheridan Street for one block, ending on Van Hook Street. The street first appears in Camden City Directories in 1917. There were 21 homes on Pulaski Street, all of which were occupied in 1947. In July of 2012, there were 20 structures till standing, all but three of which appear to have occupied at that time.

Do you have a Pulaski Street memory or picture. Let me know by e-mail so it can be included here.
