Streets Lemuel |
LEMUEL AVENUE is in East Camden. It appears to have taken its name from Lemuel Horner, who owned a large parcel of land in what became East Camden prior to 1900. At the southwest corner of North 31st Street and Lemuel Avenue stood the "starch works". This site was later the home of the General Color factory. After an environmental cleanup in the early 2000s, thirty or so new homes were built by the Housing Authority of the City of Camden as part of its Baldwin's Run redevelopment plan and Lemuel Avenue now "loops" where the old factory once stood. |
Do you have a Lemuel Avenue memory or picture. Let me know by e-mail so it can be included here. Phil
