KOSSUTH STREET runs south from 733 Van Hook Street, across Central Avenue, Ferry Avenue, Jefferson Avenue, and Chelton Avenue, ending at the railroad tracks. Named for famed Hungarian revolutionary Louis Kossuth, it appears to have been laid out prior to 1871, while that part of Camden was still Newton Township. Kossuth Street originally ended at Jefferson Avenue, but was extended in the early 1940s when the Chelton Terrace Public Housing project was built. |

the early 1950s, all properties on the east side of the 1700 Block and
and all properties ofn both sides of the 1800 Block of Kossuth street
were acquired and razed to make way for the Franklin
D. Roosevelt Manor
public housing project. This project was completed by 1954 and was razed
in turn in the spring of 2007. |
