FRIENDS AVENUE was in existence as far back as 1863. The avenue the ran north from 209 Cooper Street until reaching its end at Pearl Street. In later years Friends Avenue began at Pearl Street. There were still at least three occupied homes on Friends Avenue as late as 1980. All were gone not long afterward, however, in 2005 a new business, housing the Friends Cafe, a restaurant catering to Rutgers students and staff, was built . |
