ALLEN'S COURT, sometimes referred to as Allen Court, ran South to north, parallel to North 2nd Street, with an access alley which ran east from 108 North 2nd Street. Allen's Court is not named in the 1850 Camden City directory, but was listed in the 1863-1864 Directory, which indicates that the street was first laid out during the intervening years. There were originally six houses along the west side of the court. In the late 1910s or early 1920s the houses were renumbered from even numbers to odd numbers, keeping uniform with the city's house numbering scheme. 102 Allen became 9; 104 became 11. 106 became 13, 108 became 15, 110 became 17, and 112 became 19. When the 1929 Camden City Directory was compiled there were still six houses standing on Allen's Court, only three of which were occupied. Allen's Court was still in existence in 1933, but was gone by the time the 1947 City Directory was published. |
