Joseph Tischner operated the Silver Rail Grill at 933 North 27th Street in the Cramer Hill section of Camden NJ in the 1930s and 1940s. 

Joseph Tischner was born in Camden NJ around 1892, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tischner. He had a brother Frank Tischner Jr. By 1924 his father had passed away. 

Joseph Tischner married his wife Anna around 1915. By 1930 he was working as a pipe fitter at an oil refinery, more than likely the Cities Service refinery on nearby Petty's Island. At the time of the census the Tischner family, which included son Bernard and daughter Frances, owned a home at 1148 Cambridge Street, a short walk from Pepeta's Cafe. His brother Frank lived at 1244 Cambridge Street.

When Prohibition was repealed in 1933, Joseph Tischner involved himself in the bar business. His brother had run a speakeasy out of his house at 1244 Cambridge Street. Jacob Tischner was operating the Silver Rail Grill by 1939, and made his home above the bar. In 1947, son Bernard was also working there, as a bartender.

Joseph Tischner passed away in 1949, and was buried at Calvary Cemetery in what was then Delaware Townshup (present-day Cherry Hill) NJ. By 1959 his wife Anna was living at 1019 North 27th Street. She would join her husband in February of 1971. Bernard Tischner died September 8, 1989, and daughter Frances Tischner Dooley in 1994. They all rest together in the family plot.

No telephone books mention the Silver Rail Grill from 1959 onwards.

Two Camden men were among a group of five liquor law violators to pay fines yesterday in U. S. District Court before Judge John Boyd Avis after pleading guilty to charges of possession.

Frank Tischner, 40, of 1244 Cambridge Street, arrested by prohibition men on charges of possession of liquor and maintaining a nuisance paid a fine of $1 and drew a five-day sentence in the county jail.

A man who identified himself as George Grob, Jr ., of 800 Linden Street, was fined $75 on charges of possession of high-power beer. When arrested Grob said he was James J. Daly, of the same address. According to Assistant U. S. Attorney Isador Worth, an indictment returned against Daly showed that Grob used his name when arrested by federal men.
