THE FEDERATION OF YUGOSLAV WORKERS CLUB #578, which operated at 619 Ferry Avenue as early as the 1940s through the late 1960s, was a social club made of men and women primarily from Croatia and Slovenia, many of whom lived in the neighborhood and were parishioners at the nearby Church of the Sacred Heart at Broadway and Ferry Avenue.

By 1970 the building at 619 Ferry Avenue had become the home of the Eighth Ward Republican Club.
