CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY
WILLIAM H. GREENAN'S CAFE
2376 South 7th Street
Northeast Corner of South 7th and Fairview Streets
William Greenan is listed in the 1931 Camden City Directory as operating a "soft drinks" business at 2376 South 7th Street. Curiously, four. other Greenan family members also were operating "soft drinks" businesses in the neighborhood in the late 1920s, The four other Greenans were Hugh, Peter, Joseph, and John Greenan. William Greenan appears in the 1920 Census as a 41 year old mounted police officer employed by the Camden Police Department. He was then living at 741 Fairview Street, the corner of South 8th and Fairview Streets, with his wife Margaret and their eight children. The Greenan family was still in Camden according to the 1930 Census. By 1947 William H. Greenan had passed away. His widow was living at the then relatively new Canterbury Apartments, not far from the Fairveiw Street home in which they had lived. 2376 South 7th does not appear in the 1947 Directory. I believe the building may have already been destroyed. |
