ALL THE BARS IN CAMDEN - JANUARY 7, 1904
Back in a time where by reading the daily newspaper you could stay very informed about what was going on in your city or town, newspapers actually went into great detail reporting local news. A regular feature for the Philadelphia Inquirer as well as the local Camden papers was reporting on who received their annual liquor license renewals. Monthly happenings from the meetings of the Excise Commission, the city bureau that regulated liquor licenses was also reported as it occurred. Below is an article from the Philadelphia Inquirer of January 7, 1904 detailing who received retail liquor licenses, and who received wholesale licenses. The wholesale firms were for the most part bottlers and beer distributors. A few applications were tabled until the next meeting, one was refused, and one withdrawn.
