Michael J.
"Mickey"
Quinn

MICHAEL J. "MICKEY" QUINN was born in Pennsylvania of Irish-born parents, Michael and Catherine Quinn around 1908. He was one of at least seven children, and grew up in Philadelphia. His father worked as a plumber. Mickey Quinn apparently also worked as a plumber, but his primary occupation from the late 1920s on appears to have been armed robbery. He was serving time at Eastern State Penitentiary in Skippack, Pennsylvania when the Census was taken in April of 1930. After his release, he returned to Philadelphia, where he teamed up with another like-minded individual, Harry Schwartz, and engaged in a number of stick ups. He was arrested with Schwartz in Camden in December of 1930.

He was alleged to be the leader of the gang that pulled off the February 1945 armed robbery of the Casablanca roadhouse, a night club near the Garden State Race Track on Marlton Pike (present day Route 70) in what is now Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Arrested, tried, and convicted in Washington, D.C. later that year for a $24,000 holdup, Mickey Quinn was awaiting action on an appeal when he escaped with three other prisoners on November 24, 1945. It is alleged that he made his way to Camden area and was behind the killing of ex-convict Mitchell Sadowski, who was thought to have informed police about Quinn and his involvement in the Casablanca robbery.

Sadowski was taken into custody last April when police were conducting a checkup of alleged gangsters following the shooting of Romeo DeSanctis, chief witness to the holdup of the Casablanca roadhouse last February.

City and county police were attempting to link killing to the recent escape of "Mickey" Quinn, alleged to be the leader of the gang that robbed the Casablanca.
