LEONARD J. DROZD was born on July 30, 1929 in Camden to Helen and Joseph Drozd. His father had emigrated to America from Poland in 1912, his mother was born in America of Polish parents. When the Census was taken the following April, the Drozd family, which included older siblings Cecelia, Anthony, and Eleanor, lived at 1103 Thurman Street. Joseph Drozd was then working as a laborer at the McAndrews & Forbes licorice works on Jefferson Street at South 3rd Street, and remained with that business for many years thereafter.  

Leonard J. Drozd joined the Camden Fire Department on January 16, 1953. He worked as a Police & Fire Signal System Inspector in the the Department's Electrical Bureau.

Leonard J. Drozd was still living at 1103 Thurman Street in the fall of 1956. By October of 1959 he had moved to 1600 Norris Street. During the 1960s Leonard Drozd moved to 1771 Pershing Street, where he remained until at least 1980. His parents remained in Camden, his mother passing away in July of 1971, his father in April of 1985.

A Camden resident until his end, Leonard J. Drozd passed away on January 3, 1997.   

Leonard Drozd's nephew, J. Stanley Wysocki, was appointed to the Camden Fire Department in 1965, where he served for over 25 years, retiring as a Captain in April of 1991.
