EDWARD SCHLORER was born in Baden, Germany in 1860. He came to Camden in 1889 to join his younger brother, Adam Schlorer, who had established a meat business at Second and Arch Streets. The business moved to 800-804 Chestnut Street in 1888, and would remain there into the 1950s. 

E#dward Schlorer married Amelia Zimmerman, daughter of a well known Camden family. Mrs. Schlorer was well known as a cook, and in the very late 1890s would prepare her own mayonnaise, which was sold at the Eighth and Chestnut Street store. In 1907, after a trip to Europe, Edward and Amelia Schlorer decided to go into business packaging and selling mayonnaise and other condiments. They moved to Philadelphia, where Mrs. Schlorer's mayonnaise was an instant success with consumers. Mrs. Schlorer's products are still sold today, almost 100 years later.

Edward Schlorer passed away at his Overbrook home on February 5, 1928. His brother Adam Schlorer had died only eleven days earlier, at his home in Wildwood NJ, on January 25, 1928.

Less than two weeks after the death of his brother, Adam, with whom he had been closely associated for many years, Edward Schlorer, former Camden resident and business man, died yesterday at his home at Overbrook. He was 68 years old and had been ill with a complication of diseases incident to advancing years. He is survived by a son, Charles, and a daughter, Mrs. Anna Smith, of Overbrook.

The funeral will take place Thursday at 2:00 at the Schroeder Chapel, Broadway and Royden Street. Interment will be in Harleigh Cemetery.

Schlorer was born in Baden, Germany in 18609 where he remained until his early manhood. It was in 1884 that his brother Adam, four years his junior, decided to come to America to seek his fortune. Five years later Edward crossed the seas and rejoined his brother. 

In the meanwhile Adam had established his meat business at Second and Arch Streets, later moving to Eighth and Chestnut Streets. It was at the period when the western packers were sending their meats to this section that the competition became keen and Edward was identified with his brother.

About 30 years ago Adam temporarily went to Berlin NJ, while Edward operated the business. When Adam returned to Eighth and Chestnut, Edward and his wife, who had been Miss Amelia Zimmerman, daughter of a well known Camden family, took a trip to Europe. It was on their return that Mrs. Schlorer, noted among her neighbors and the store patrons for her culinary skill, decided to try her hand at selling mayonnaise and other relishes. That was when she and Edward moved to Philadelphia. Her venture met with almost instant success and from that humble beginning grew the Schlorer Delicatessen Company, now nationally known and which had been headed by her husband. She died many years ago.
