AUGUST KNORR was born in Germany on February 20, 1887. He came to America in 1900. Learning the baker's trade, he owned a bakerty in Philadelphia before moving to Camden in the early 1920s. By 1924 he was the owner and operator of a bakery at 1100 North 26th Street, the corner of 26th Street and Wayne Avenue in Camden's Cramer Hill section. August Knorr passed away in Pennsauken NJ on July 5, 1967. The business was still open and although under different ownership at the time of his death. |

Knorr Dies; Owner of Bakery August Knorr, 80, former owner of Knorr's Bakery at 26th Street and Wayne Avenue in Camden died Wednesday at Laurelview West Nursing Center in Pennsauken. He had resided at 2256 38th Street, Pennsauken. Mr. Knorr, a Pennsauken resident for the past 21 years, was a member of Christus Evangelical Lutheran Church, past master of Mozart Lodge 121, F&AM; past patron of Sincerity Chapter 228, OES; life member of Excelsior Consistory, AAS; Gavel Club and honorary member and past president of Germania Maennerchor. He was the husband of the late Marie Knorr, and is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Helen C. Durst of Pennsauken, Mrs. Elsie P. Bridgman of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Mildred S. Kreher and Mrs. Gertrude M. Lawyer of Camden, 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will he Monday at 11 a.m. in the Christus Evangelical Lutheran Church, 26th Street and Hayes Avenue, Camden. Friends may call Sunday evening at the Gustav Roedel & Son Funeral Home, 804 North 27th Street, Camden. Eastern Star services, will be held at 7:30 p.m,. and Masonic Services at 8 p.m.; Entombment will be in Arlington Mausoleum, Pennsauken . |
